A Profession I Never Thought I'd Become

It was six (6) years ago when my grandmother died because of complications of Diabetes and I was exactly in my last year in high school. Before my grandma embraced God's kingdom, she undergone below the knee amputation (surgery) to prevent further infection that might get from her gangrenous foot. During her hospitalization period, I seldom visited her because I'm afraid of hospitals, and I hate its smell. When my grandma went home from the hospital I started to take care of her, I specially cooked her food based on the diet that her Doctor told us, woke-up at dawn time just to give her medications and also giving her assistance to anywhere she wanted to go and that was the time that my grandmother started to call me as her "NURSE". Every time I heard that name/term from her, I couldn't help myself but smile. It was not really in my dreams of becoming a nurse but when I went to college, I had no choice but to take up nursing because I love my dad, and all he wanted was to have a nurse in our family. It was difficult at first but I started loving it when I already had my hospital and community exposures. Years passed by and with God's grace I became a Registered Nurse and what makes me so happy and proud for having this profession is that, I know from my heart that before I became the nurse to my patients, I already became the nurse to my grandmother. I know she's watching me from heaven and I know she is proud to what I am right now-- A Nurse--helping sick people, touching hearts, saving lives.
